1. Battle Row Campground – Old Bethpage

This is an ideal spot to chillax with friends. Put the technology down and enjoy Mother Nature. This luxuriously earthy location consists of 44 acres of campground and woods. They have 64 campsites, all equipped with restrooms and showers (for those who don’t want to get too in tune with nature). The campground also has a softball field, and both tent and vehicle campsites.  This scenic gem is the perfect combination of fun and tranquility.

2. Nickerson Beach Park – Lido Beach

This white sand beach, along the Atlantic Ocean on Long Island’s South Shore, is where it’s at. There are 74 recreational vehicle sites, complete with water, and electric hook-ups.   Don’t forget the firewood! A bonfire on the beach is practically the definition of summer happiness. Plan a hike down the summery sand dunes to the ocean. Dip in the sea to beat the heat. Or enjoy a night swim under the late evening stars.

3. Watch Hill – Fire Island

Enjoy Fire Island at its finest. Camp in the dunes by the sea and banish negativity. The campground consists of 26 sand sites with facilities including tables, grills, showers and bathrooms. Eat blueberries under the forest canopy, frolic in the marsh, and enjoy the ferry ride. Heads up, you’ll need to book in advance.

4. Smith Point County Park – Fire Island

This hot spot has something for everyone. Visitors can choose between the ocean and the bay side. Swim, fish, and sunbathe in the cool breezes of the ocean side. Or, crab and mellow out in the calming waters of the Great South Bay. Bring your bikes, kites, and dogs. The peaceful aura of the bay is great for bird watching. You can even see the occasional deer. Either side is serene. Just note, camping is on a first-come first-serve basis.

5. Indian Island County Park – Riverhead

This 275 acre oasis, at the mouth of the Peconic River, has everything you need for picturesque picnics and hikes. Add in fishing, along with vehicle and tent spots, and you have camping bliss. This spot is excellent for kayaking and is a haven away from the hustle and bustle of life. It’s close to the neighboring vineyards, too! So, you know what that means... (We may or may not be suggesting it’s a nearby way to get happily buzzed off of the sweet heaven of fermented grapes and then giddily stumble back into your tent.)

6. Wildwood State Park – Wading River

This rocky beach makes for an invigorating adventure. It’s 600 acres of hardwood forest overlooking the Long Island Sound. Movies are shown weekly during July and August. And if you're feeling crazy, head to the square dance (hit the “backpack” first, but go to the dance for a laugh. YOLO!). Each campsite has tables and nearby food concessions for when you get the munchies. The park has wood for sale, but bring your own pit. There’s nothing better than snacking around the fire, looking up at the constellations.

7. Hither Hills State Park – Montauk

If you’re a fan of trees (they’re pretty rad), journey through woodlands filled with Russian olive, oak, and pine. There is nothing fresher than breathing in this woodsy aroma. This site offers everything from picnic areas to fireplaces to sport fishing. There’s a two-mile beach, a 40-acre freshwater lake, and a 168-site campground on the ocean. Drive the RV down to the far eastern end of the south fork. You’ll get the full experience here.
